Grid Nodes Selection Strategies for Power Quality Monitoring

In the past few years, technical progress has determined traditional electric power system conversion to Smart Grids, and consequently empowered a worldwide renaissance in forgotten PQ field. Since installation of monitors is currently associated with high investments operational costs, it inappropriate install monitor on each grid busbar. Hence, operators must establish best cost–benefit scenario for achieve maximal observability limited number analyzers. Firstly, this paper presents review state-of-the-art displacement strategies, discusses them regarding tendencies node selection criteria, test schemes used, size. Secondly, relevant fundamental issues which be solved future order eliminate restrictions monitors’ allocation planning are presented discussed. These concern treatment, interpretation, assessment events, measurement chain features, PQ’s role stage, communication technologies, other remote monitoring aspects, integration Grid applications. The provided insights based experience been obtained during campaign Lithuanian DSO grid. Finally, development strategy—both short-term long-term perspectives—in distribution presented, including criteria.
